Central
Ground Water Authority (CGWA)
was constituted on 14 January 1997 by the Ministry of Environment
and Forest under Sub – Section (3) of Section 3 of the
Environment (Protection) Act, 1998 (29 of 1986) as per the direction of
Hon’ble Supreme Court of India initially for one year and subsequently
declared as a Permanent Body through Gazette Notification of the Ministry
of Environment and Forest dated 6 November 2000.
