The pre-monsoon water
level in Kerala State as measured from National Hydrograph Stations (NHS) during
April 2004 is widely ranging from fraction of metres to 54.15. But most parts
of the State are falling in the range of 0.62 to 20 metres as represented by
98.8% of NHS. Shallow water level in the range of 0.3 – 2.0 m is seen in
coastal tracts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam
districts. The major part of the midland region of the State shows ground water
level in the range of 2 – 10 m, except the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur,
Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram where water level is still deeper and is in the
range of 2 – 20 m, water level in the range of 20 – 57.16 m is seen in southern
part of Thiruvananthapuram district.
