The North Central Region covers, the entire Madhya Pradesh which is
centrally located in the country. Madhya Pradesh is part of completely Inland State. It
covers an area of about 3,08,245 Sq.kms. lying between North Latitudes 200
00 and 260 50 and East longitudes 740 00 and 800 50. The state is
bounded by U.P. and Rajasthan in north, Gujarat in the west, Maharashtra in the south and
Chhatisgarh in the east.
The population as per
2001 census is 6,03,85118 with a population density of 196 persons per sq.km. Out of total
population 73% is rural.
The state has been divided into 48
districts and 313 blocks. The important urban areas of the state are Indore, Bhopal,
Gwalior and Jabalpur.
The Regional Head
quarters of North Central Region, (NCR) of Central Ground Water Board is located at
Bhopal. It is part of National apex organization with responsibilities to carry out Ground
Water Surveys, Exploration, Monitory of water levels, Artificial Recharge Studies,
Geophysical Surveys, Management & Development of Ground Water Resources, Water
Management Training and Mass Awareness Programmes and Regulation of ground water resources
for irrigation and industrial uses, water supply investigations for defence, railways etc.
Regional Office is headed
by the Regional Director. There are different sections in the region, under control of
Regional Director. Among main sections are Technical-Section, Report processing section,
Hydrology Project, Geophysical Section, Regional Chemical. Lab, Ground Water Regime
monitoring section, Stores & Vehicles, Accounts & Establishment and Regional Data
Centre. North Central Region is also having well equipped chemical lab of 2 + category
where all chemical parameters of water are determined along with Trace Elements (Arsenic,
Iron Manganese, Zinc, Cadmium, Chromium, Lead, Selenium, Silver etc. Chemists of the lab
are also conducting pollution studies in different parts of state including industrial and
fertilizers pollutions.
Under NCR there is a
Division Office Division XII at Bhopal headed by the Executive Engineer. Divisional office
is engaged in Ground Water Exploration work through departmental rigs. At present there
are 4 Rigs in Div. XII, and their details is as follow: -
