There is a lot of "Problem Villages" in
the state. Some have a problem of not having a source of water while some have a quality
problem. Under Technology Mission, and Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Mission, more than 2500
villages have been covered by CGWB up to March 2003. In tribal areas of Jhabua district,
in which some of the villages were affected by Guinea worm (water borne disease) and high
fluoride content in drinking water, a multi disciplinary studies were carried out to solve
drinking water problem, 261, villages were covered for safe drinking water supply and
favorable sites for tubewells, dugwells and deepening of wells were recommended. In
Rajgarh district, having highest incidence of Guina worm infestation 334 problem villages
were covered and suitable sites for ground water structure for safe drinking water were
selected.
