Interaction with the Government Departments - State & UT

The Board is actively associated with different departments of the State Government and is rendering advise in their developmental activities.

Under the Technology Mission Programme in Ramanathapuram, Salem and Cuddalore districts, the Board is actively involved in the source finding, design, drilling, construction and testing of wells. In coastal areas cement sealing techniques are adopted to seal off the saline zones. This technique has been demonstrated for adoption by the State Government Agencies. Presently, under Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, the fluoride-free water supply programme is in progress in Salem, Dharmapuri, Erode, Coimbatore and Trichirapalli. So far around 567 habitations have been cleared.

CGWB, SECR is rendering assistance to Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board for their water supply schemes as and when requests are received from them.

ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE PROJECTS

Implementation of ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE schemes under Central Sector Scheme for recharge to ground water is being taken up in the CGWB, SECR since 1998. The funds for these projects, taken up in over-exploited areas, are provided by CGWB and the execution is done by State Govt. agencies/NGOs. A TCC under the chairmanship of the District Collector supervises the implementation of the scheme. Five such schemes have already been implemented in Dharmapuri, Namakkal and Villupuram districts. Implementation of similar schemes are currently in progress in Villupuram, Coimbatore and Virudhunagar districts. An amount of Rs. 215/- lakhs has already been sanctioned for these projects.

9. Consultation Committee on Ecological & / As Geomorphological Sensitivity of Coastal Stretches on the Secretariat Side of East Coast Road (Phase - I)  (constituted by Ministry of Environment & Forests, GoI).
