Geomorphologically the district can be can broadly be divided into four characteristic units Coastal Zone, Kachchh Mainland, Banni Plains, The two Ranns, Great Rann (~ 2m MSL) in the north and Little Rann in the east comprising vast saline wasteland. Geologically the area is occupied by the Mesozoic sediments to Quaternary alluvium. As per the GWRE, 2017 report, the Stage of Ground Water Development varies from 28.45 % (Lakhpat Taluka) to 117.49 % (Bhachau). The overall development in the district is 83.87 % (Semi Critical).
