Aquifer mapping is a multi-disciplinary scientific approach for aquifer characterization or it can be defined as a scientific process, wherein a combination of geologic, geophysical, hydrologic and laboratory analyses are applied to characterize the quantity, quality and sustainability of ground water in aquifers. .According to the present condition of groundwater related issues there is an urgent need for an accurate and comprehensive picture of groundwater resources available in different hydrogeological settings. Therefore Central Ground Water Board has taken up the National Aquifer Mapping Projection (NAQUIM) on a scale of 1:50,000 to formulate sustainable aquifer management plan.
