National project on Aquifer Mapping (NAQUIM) had been taken up by CGWB to carry out detailed hydrogeological investigation on Toposheet scale of 1:50,000. Aquifer mapping is a process wherein a combination of geologic, geophysical, hydrologic and chemical analyses is applied to characterize the quantity, quality and sustainability of ground water in aquifers. The vagaries of rainfall, inherent heterogeneity unsustainable nature of hard rock aquifers, over exploitation of once copious alluvial aquifers, lack of regulation mechanism has a detrimental effect on ground water scenario of the Country in last decade or so. Thus, ing the paradigm shift from “traditional groundwater development concept” to “modern groundwater management concept”.
