The Deoria District is situated in the Eastern part of the state Uttar Pradesh. It is surrounded
by Gorakhpur District in West, Mau and Ballia district in South, Kushinagar district in North,
and the district forms boundary with Bihar in East. Mappable Area of the district is 2538 sq. km distributed in 16 blocks of the district. Net irrigated area of the district is 186606 ha and gross irrigated area is 301060 ha. Total 95.25% of the net irrigated area is being irrigated by ground water in the district. Seasonal water level fluctuation shows 60% of area having fluctuation less than 2 meter and 39 % area 2-4 meter. Cumulative discharge of Aquifer is varying from1600 lpm to 3038 lpm and specific capacity varies from 290 lpm to 1211 lpm/meter of drawdown.
