National Aquifer Mapping (NAQUIM) has been taken up in XII five-year plan by CGWB to carry out detailed hydrogeological investigation on 1:50,000 scale. Chandrapur district is a one of the districts of the Vidarbha Region in Maharashtra State. It is situated in the eastern part of Maharashtra and total area of the district is 11, 443 sq. km. and falls in parts of survey of India degree sheets 55H, 55L, 56E and 56I. It is bounded on south by Andhra Pradesh State, east by Gadchiroli district, on north by Gondia, Bhandara, Nagpur and Wardha districts on west by Yavatmal district. Wardha and Penganga Riversforms the western boundary, whereas Wainganga River forms the eastern boundary of the district.The district headquarters is located at Chandrapur Town. For administrative convenience, the district is divided into 15 blocks viz., Chandrapur, Warora, Chimur, Nagbhir, Brahmapuri, Sawli, Sindewahi, Bhadravati, Mul, Pombhurna, Ballarpur, Korpana, Rajura, Gondpipri and Jiwatiand. Aquifer mapping studies of the district carried out for deciphering Aquifer geometry, Aquifer characteristics, conceptualization of aquifer system, Identification of ground water issues and preparation of ground water management plan.
