The Etawah district, a segment of Kanpur division, covers a geographical area of 2311 sq.
km and falls in the Survey of India Toposheet No. 54 N 54 J. The district shares its boundary
with Mainpuri and Kannauj district in the north, Jalaun district in the south, Auraiya in the east
and Agra Firozabad district in the west. A major part of its western boundary is shared with
the state of Madhya Pradesh. From the administrative point of view, the district has been
divided into five tehsils and eight blocks namely Barhpura, Basrehar, Bharthana, Chakarnagar,
Jaswantnagar, Mahewa, Saifai Takha as shown in Figure 1. The district headquarter is
situated at Etawah town. It is well connected with its adjoining districts and the state of M.P.
by metalled roads. The entire district has a good network of all-weather roads.
