The district is a land-locked district situated in the dry southern portion of Uttar Pradesh
state known as Bundelkhand. It lies between the latitudes 25°27’00”N to 25°57’00”N and
longitudes 79°11’00”E to 80°19’00”E. It is a part of Chitrakoot Dham Division of Uttar
Pradesh state with Hamirpur town as the district headquarters. It connects the central
portion of Uttar Pradesh known as Awadh to Bundelkhand. It is bounded by Kanpur and
Fatehpur districts to the north, Banda district to the east, Mahoba district to the south and
the districts of Jhansi and Jalaun to the west.
