Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute

Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Ground Water Training and Research was established at Raipur as a training wing of the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India during the IXth Five Year Plan and has been continuously functioning since 1997.  Establishment of Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training and Research Institute has a national role in conducting training courses for ground water resource specialists. States or other institutions are not well equipped to meet the training needs of the groundwater sector.

Ground water resource is public property and due to its large scale exploitation, water table and water quality are rapidly declining in large parts of India. Keeping this in view, the institute has been identified for imparting three tier training for ground water specialists, sub-specialists and other stakeholders. The objective of this training is to build a bridge of trained experts to work in the field of sustainability of groundwater resources. Tier-II in Raipur. During the training, state and central level ground water experts and sub-experts are given ground water related training along with scientific inputs. Working towards ground water sustainability requires trained human resource specialists on large scale who cannot be trained in short duration, therefore Raipur based Institute for Ground Water Specialists and Sub-Specialists Tier-II. Organizes state level training programs under the training programme. Ground water management has been envisaged on participatory basis. Training of ground level stakeholders on basic skills of ground water data collection and field study Tier-III To provide level training, block level training program is being organized by the institute in KBHUJBO regional and state unit offices.

Objective:-

  • To develop into an international center of excellence for training, research and development in ground water.
  • To train ground water experts, sub-experts in different areas of ground water.
  • To provide training to ground water NGOs, Panchayati Raj organizations and other stakeholders.
  • Ground water monitoring and training of various stakeholders for data collection for aquifer mapping under Participatory Ground Water Management Program of National Project on Aquifer Management (NACUM).
  • >Research and development work in ground water sector.
