Aquifer mapping studies have been carried out in Dharwad taluk, Dharwad district of
Karnataka, covering an area of 1117.9 sq.km under NAQUIM Project. Dharwad taluk is located
between North Latitudes 1541’0.35” – 1519’20” and East Longitudes between East 7447’50” –
7513’40” and falls in parts of Survey of India Toposheets No: 56C/11, 12, 14 , 15, 16 56G/2, 3.
The study area is bounded on the east by Hubli and Navalgund Taluks of Dharward district, on the
North by Bidar district, on the South by Kalghatgi taluk and in the west by Uttara Kannda District.
Location map of Dharwad taluk of Dharward district is presented in Fig.1. Dharwad is the taluk
head quarter (7500’28.19” E - 1527’26.63” N. Dharwad well connected by national (NH-4),
state highways and the rail. The Dharwad-Hubli, the twin city is a major city, Dharwad is the
home to the renown Karnataka University and the University of Agricultural Sciences,
Dharward.
